This tutorial talks about fetiches and real life murder cases, triggers ahead

Introduction

This how to had been a long time comings. I always notice, with new OCs, is that they either have no good motive for killing or they are 'insane'. Not only is insanity not an illness, but instead a compilation of different factors leading to the diagnosis, but it's also boring and never excited well. I feel as if I may rant at placed but yolo, I still hope you enjoy~

The facts

So, you want an killer OC but don't have a good motivation? Well, I hate to break it to you, but no logical motive equates to an illogical and further broken OC. Good thing your here then! As I see it there are three main reason a person would want to harm others, (if we are talking about people who commit multiple murders/assaults/sexual harassment, and not one offs), and they are as follows. This tutorial applies to humans and brings their own will so this how won't work for proxies or monsters.

Mental illness;
Kind of contradicting myself here but if you are bothered to do the reading using a mental illness then this can be a useful tool to flesh out charters. If you do go down this path I can not stress how additional reading is! If you throw in mental illness and fail to do the right reading it is horribly clear how little effort you've put in and the OC will crumble apart.

First thing to keep in mind is this; mental illness does not cause crime, criminals are simple often mentally ill. A lot of people seem to think that all people with "X" mental illness are instantly evil people and want to kill/hurt others. Fun fact, up on corporate ladders sit a very high number of sociopaths and psychopaths who aside from being very rich, lead perfectly normal lives.

I am this man, do as I say plz

The following are a list of mental disorders that are common in the main stream media. There are many hundreds of types of mental disorders though these are some which are commonly used in the horror fandom as an explanation for inhuman behaviour.

  • Bipolar Disorder; Sufferers of Bipolar may experience episodes of; Depression and Mania (a person fill feel very active and high). These mood swings can last for weeks at a time. Causes of this disorder are unknown but have been linked to high stress life styles and genetics.
  • Schizophrenia; Symptoms include hallucinations which cam be moth visual and audible; delusions or the belief that things are real with no evidence to back it up; sudden changes in behaviour; and the inability to work out what's real and what's in a person's head. This can lead to violent and erratic outbursts. Schizophrenia is caused by genetics and upbringing.
  • Psychosis; People with this condition will hallucinate images, voices, smells, feelings and tastes and believe that things are real without evidence, become very easily paranoid. It is a state triggered in an entreaty mental unstable person by extreme stress or depression.
  • Shared Psychosis; Like nominal Psychosis this cases hallucinations and delusions though is triggered when two specific people come together. Apart the two people will be totally normal though together will act erratically
  • Sociopaths; an overly intelligent and often charming person who is unable to feel shame, or remorse; is antisocial; lacks good judgment and can't learn from mistakes; is generally unresposcable; and manipulative. This is almost totally genetic.
  • Psychopaths; a person who is unable to feel grate amounts of empathy; is generally uncaring; unable to sounds sincere; irresponsibility; proud; selfish; and violent, tied off with a bow of above average intellect. Again, this is almost totally genetic. People tend to get Sociopaths and Psychopaths confused, but in short, the Sociopaths are less violent in nature.

This child looks Chara I swear.

Above is linked a video on a child with a clear violent Psychopathic personality. Though Socio/Psychopaths have differently whirred minds genetically, they can become more aggressive with upbringing.

Fetish; (triggers ahead)
Without sounding weird, I love this motive! It's almost never used and it has so much potential. And it's not like this isn't even a real thing, this legitimately happens! So I first heard of this about three yeas ago, when someone who shares me interesting in the fucked up mentioned the story I've linked below. Fetish is an actual motive which drives people to kill!!!
Victim of cannibal agrees to be eaten
The fetish involved with this case is called, to my knowledge, is vore (that links safe, it goes to a youtube page where this fetish is explained without getting graphic). This fetish involves the sexual arousal to being eaten/eating human! If you need to explain a serial cannibal, you could use this fetish as a motive.

Rules by emthereviewer

Not only that, but as rule 34 of the internet doth proclaim, "There is porn of it, no exceptions". There is a fetish for everything these days; here are some you may like to apply to your horror charters to give them motive.

  • Pedophilia; the sexual attraction to children. This one is one of the more horrible one's in my opinion but why do you think kids are abducted? Other than for partners to mess with divorce cases that is. Children can and are abducted, sold and exploited, often never to return to their families as they are either killed or lost forever.
  • Necrophilia; the sexual attraction to corpses. Can be the result of people who are redirected to often or are scared of redirection, an over active rape fetish or simply like to fuck dead bodies. The applications are endless.
  • Rape fetish; does what it says on the tin. This tends to be an extension of a BDSM fetish, but with less consent involved...
  • Retifism and Item fetishes; this includes shoe/stiletto, underwear/lingerie and general position fetiches. It's surprising what lengths people will go to for a few simple items. Though on its own people don't kill for shoes, no matter how nice they are, this does sometimes lead people into stalking and violent behaviour patterns. (suggested for 7643524234235 with Nick Vanill)
  • Sadism and Masochism; the sexual attraction to getting hurt/embarrassed or hurting/humiliating a person. Masochism is when one enjoys pain subjected to themselves and vice versa. It's easy to see how this could escalate out of control for a person.
  • BDSM; an overlapping abbrevation of Bondage and Discipline (BD), Dominance and Submission (DS), Sadism and Masochism (SM)-urban dictionary. Think 50 shades of grey, whips, chains and a lot of pain. It's not hard to see how this could escalate.
  • Headless-ness/decapitation fetish; the sexual attraction to head or headlessness bodies. This one rearly surprised me when I stumbled upon it. That fetish community was once attracted by some of my gore work, I was confused. (suggested for RiaSora27 with Crimson Reaper)
  • Conjoined twins fetish; a sexual attraction to conjoined twins or the idear of people being stuck together. I stumbled across this a week or so ago, when looking at adoptable. This could be applied as some over zealous taxidermy combined with Necrophilia, if you want to use it in a horror context.
  • Sleeping princesses fetish; a sexual attraction to people in comas, asleep or passed out, but not dead. Basically the same as Necrophilia, but with living people instead of dead ones.
  • Autassassinophilia; sexual attraction to the risk of death and risk in general. This fetish would be best fitted for a shipping pasta, you can read more about them here - How to horror: Romance, couples and ships?
  • Blood/Gore fetish; does what it says on the tin.
  • Erotophonophilia; a fetish for murdering people. John Wayne Gacy publicly admitted to having this is court. After killing his first victim he was recorded saying he noticed shortly after the event he'd climaxed during the during the child's death.
  • Taphephilia; a sexual attraction for being berried alive/burring people alive. Again, this would work best for a shipping pasta.
  • Autoerotic asphyxiation; the act of chocking or being chocked for sexual gratification.

I could go on, but we're be hear all day if I did. As I said before, you can turn basically anything into a fetish. There's a fetish for lightbulbs and starting cars for doge sake. It's so easy to make fetish a motive, it's unreal. Anything can be a fetish, and if it's a fetish you can bet your bottom dollar that someone out there, no matter how fucked up the fetish is, is willing to practise it.

You're a pervert.

Education;

Don't give me that look, this one's real as well. You could call the following educator or a lack of a good education; basically, this is the idear that the environment breads killers. Sometimes people say 'evil' is just something you're born with while others say 'evil' is something your taught. Now people aren't literally taught to be murders (outside of the redneck side of amerce) or kill, unless you're in the military, but sometimes upbringing can cause people to function differently.

Creepy-Condescending-Wonka by emthereviewer
I shall go on my good sir

I could call this category a number of things like "environment", "upbringing" or even "revenge" but I'm gonna keep it as education. The world we live in teaches us things, no matter what you do. Now, as I mentioned before upbringing has a lot to do with this category. Say we have to house holds;
House A is a nice big house in a nice town where everyone's nice to everyone else; the family living inside house A are a very polite bunch who are always kind to everyone else. House B is a small house in a crappy and rough town; the family living inside is dysfunctional, has a history of abuse and violence.
Think now, which house will on average breed the better kids? House A right? In a friendly environment people grow to reflect that and are friendly themselves, while toughs in a dangerous environment will grow to be rough. Now I'm not saying that bad up bringing breed bad people, not at all, but most killer simply come form bad and abuse families/schools/towns. If a chid grows up watching their parents fight they learn that it's acceptable for them to fight as they become desensitised. Bad up brings by themselves, if extreme enough, can produce bad people. It doesn't end at child hood either; if everyone around you later in life is violent you'll probably also become more violent.

I don't have to much more to say here other than treat others how you want to be treated, as we all act like each other.

How to apply

No solo factor, by itself, makes a bad person. Though people we'd consider "evil" have a whole fountain of different factors effecting how and what they are. If you're gonna make a charter though, they not to over do anything, i.e., don't give your charter every disorder in the book, or every fetish or say everyone hated them.

What to avoid

Simply put, avoid cutting corners. Lack of good reading and jumping into making a charter when you have no idear what you're doing will only result in a charter seeming disjoined. I've said this so many time now it's unreal; do you're reading.

Where to learn more

Since I do find Canaibals interesting, having six in my OC library, I'll give you this video called "should we be cannibals" by Rob Dyke. FYI, I just find this topic interesting before any of y'all write me off as something I'm not.

For more ideas on fetishes (mostly non-violent), though I don't rearly like or find this page to useful, I refer you to this wiki page. It is wiki so take everything with a pinch of salt. It's a lot safer to use than googling the fetish and finding yourself somewhere you don't want to be.

Some other things I'd recommend you look at are the case of the IceMan Killer as well as "making a murderer" which is a Netflix original. It's rearly good.

Other than that, make sure to do your reading~

Closer

I've been a little stressed recently, that's why I've been working on these. I love your feedback and knowing I'm helping people brings a smile to my face. From the bottom of my heart, I hope you found this useful~

My character kills people because she was raised to do that at a young age. Is that a good motive?
